One question we always get is “Does this serger have differential feed?” Yes, it does. Differential feed is nice as it allows you to do a lettuce hem or gathered edge on your material. This is perfect to ease in a shoulder seam. Simply push up the lever and hold the top fabric and extra fabric will be pushed into the seam to make a perfect curve.
We also sewed out some stitch samples to show how it sews. We sewed a rolled hem, a three and four thread overlock stitches. One of the stitches I use is for making kites it is a 4 thread with a rolled edge. You won’t find this in the manual or any book. It makes a strong finished hem that does very well in high winds.
Of course this serger is in its element making clothes and quilts. The two thread flat lock stitch is perfect for swimsuits, leotards or biker’s shorts. It makes a very stretch seam that has no bulk. Your 4 thread has a two safety stitches with two overlock stitches.
What makes the Baby Lock sergers special is, ”Jet Air Threading.” All you have to do is insert about ½ inch of the thread and press the threading lever and it shoots the thread out of the loopers. Very easy! The needles have built in threaders too.
The stitch quality is superb on these with the automatic thread delivery system. There are no tensions to adjust on this machine. Depending on how thick, wide and long the stitches are, the machine automatically pulls out the perfect amount of thread for a perfect stitch.
This serger came from a non-smoking environment and is a nice clean machine. There is a manual included that will tell you how to run the machine. We refinished some parts of the exterior for a fresh look.
